Why I Chose to Coach Women Through Menopause—and Beyond Hi Reader, Most fitness coaches choose a niche because it's good for business. That isn't my story. For more than 30 years, I've coached people of all ages and fitness levels. I loved helping my fitness students get stronger, move better, and build confidence in their bodies. But over time, I noticed something changing. More and more women in their 40s, 50s and beyond were telling me the same things: "I'm doing everything I used to do, but nothing works anymore." "I've gained weight around my middle and can't lose it." "I'm exhausted and find it difficult to bounce back." “I get more stressed out and anxious than I used to when I was in my thirties” "My motivation has disappeared." "My body doesn't feel like my own." Do any of the things mentioned above resonate with you? At the same time, I was entering menopause myself. Suddenly, these weren't just conversations with clients—they were experiences I was living too. I realized something important. Most fitness advice wasn't designed for women in midlife. The strategies that worked in our 20s and 30s often cease their compatibility as estrogen changes. Many women respond by exercising more, eating less, and becoming frustrated when their bodies don't cooperate as one would hope or expect. The problem isn't a lack of discipline. It's that your physiology has changed. That realization completely changed the way I coach. Instead of focusing only on calories burned or the number on the scale, I began looking at the bigger picture:
Those questions became the foundation of my coaching philosophy. Today I combine strength training with nutrition, recovery, lifestyle habits, and evidence-informed education because menopause isn't just about hormones—it's about helping women continue living vibrant, active, independent lives. I don't believe getting older means accepting decline. I believe strength is one of the greatest investments we can make in ourselves. Strong muscles help us climb stairs, carry groceries, travel, play with grandchildren, recover from illness, protect our bones, and maintain the freedom to keep doing the things we love and live a life of adventure. That is why I became a coach for menopausal and post-menopausal women; not because menopause defines us, but because I believe it can become the beginning of one of the strongest and most meaningful chapters of our lives. Here's to getting stronger and aging boldly together. Many blessings to you for abundant health, happiness and wellbeing ~ Strong and Beautiful in Midlife! Hi Reader, When I was a sophomore in college, I worked at a gym on the weekends to make extra money. It was located in a stripmall area called Caesar’s Bay Bazar right off a major highway in Brooklyn with a large parking lot that was always packed. There was a really good diner that served healthy food that I liked called “Circles”, a flea market, and a small amusement park for children called Nellie Blye. The neighborhood was Bath Beach, Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, and predominantly Italian. I’m...
Hi Reader, One of the most common things I hear from the women I work with is: "I never had insulin resistance in my thirties." Or... "My cholesterol suddenly went up." "My blood sugar isn't what it used to be." If you've ever wondered why so many of these changes seem to happen around the same time, the answer usually isn't just one number on a blood test. It's something much bigger: your metabolic health. One of the things I love most about what I do is getting to know the women I work with...
Tiny Seeds. Big Possibilities Hi Reader, For the last four weeks, I've been getting acupuncture to help treat plantar fasciitis and tendinopathy in my right forearm. I haven't had bodywork like this on a regular basis in years, so I've found myself genuinely looking forward to Mondays at 2:15 p.m. It's become part of my weekly ritual. Next door to the acupuncture clinic is a store that sells supplies for Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners—and it's also open to the public. My...
