How one “cocktail” transformed my digestion 🌱

From Bloat to Balance: My Chia-Kefir Cocktail Secret

Hi Reader,

I’ll be honest—my digestion used to be pretty lousy. Bloating, sluggishness, discomfort after meals… sound familiar?

Sometimes I would skip meals because I wasn’t hungry from the bloat which masked as fullness. Plus I anticipated I’d have an upset stomach. Needless to say, I just didn’t look forward to eating. The situation totally sucked!

Ever since I started drinking this simple chia + kefir cocktail, everything changed. My digestion feels light, regular, and strong—better than it has in years. 🙌

And the best part? It’s not just tasty, it’s also my favorite pre-workout drink.

Here’s why this “cocktail” works so well, especially for women in perimenopause through post-menopause:

🌱 Why Kefir is a Midlife Superfood

Kefir is a fermented milk drink made with kefir grains (a living culture of beneficial bacteria and yeasts). Unlike yogurt, kefir contains a much wider variety of probiotics—often 30+ strains of good bacteria and yeasts.

For women in midlife, this matters because:

  • Gut health shifts during perimenopause and menopause, often making digestion more sensitive. Kefir helps restore microbial balance. I can’t say enough about how critical good gut health is for women in peri through post menopause. It is for everyone but peri through post menopause is when I really noticed a need to strengthen it.

  • Better nutrient absorption: probiotics how well your body uses calcium, magnesium, and B vitamins—nutrients we especially need for bone and hormonal health. I stopped taking probiotic supplements as I found the kefir-chia cocktail improved my digestion so well.

  • Immune support: 70% of the immune system lives in the gut, and a diverse microbiome keeps it strong.

  • Lactose friendly: raw goat milk kefir, in particular, is often easier to digest because the probiotics pre-digest much of the lactose.

I personally find raw goat milk kefir gentler than cow milk, but raw A2A2 cow milk is another great option. If you’re curious about finding raw milk, visit www.rawmilk.com to connect with local farms.

🌱 Why Chia Seeds Deserve the Spotlight

Chia seeds may be tiny, but they pack a nutritional punch:

  • Fiber: Just 2 tablespoons contain 10 grams of fiber, which supports digestion, satiety, and blood sugar balance.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids: Essential for brain health, reducing inflammation, and supporting cardiovascular health.
  • Minerals: Calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus for bone strength—critical during and after menopause.
  • Plant-based protein: Helps repair muscle and sustain energy, especially great before a workout.

When soaked, chia seeds expand into a gel-like consistency that’s soothing for the digestive tract and gives your cocktail a pudding-like texture.

🌱 The Recipe: My Go-To Gut-Healing Cocktail

  • 8 oz raw goat milk kefir (or raw A2A2 cow milk kefir)
  • 2 Tbsp organic chia seeds
  • Optional: a few drops of organic stevia glycerite, monk fruit, or allulose for sweetness
  • Optional: a dash of Ceylon cinnamon

Mix the chia seeds into kefir, add sweetener/spices if desired, and let it sit overnight in the fridge. By morning, you’ll have a thick, creamy, probiotic-rich drink that feels more like dessert than health food.

✨ Pro tip: If you’ve never made kefir before, you’ll need kefir grains (they’re easy to find online). Once you have them, you can reuse them endlessly—just like a sourdough starter. This is the one I purchased through Amazon. Also the more you make Kefir, they multiply.

Kefir TIP

If you make Kefir once a week, store the grains in a glass mason jar. The grains should always have some liquid so just pour a bit of the raw goat milk to help them stay fresh and the bacteria fed.

Since I started making this cocktail part of my daily routine, my digestion has gone from frustrating to fantastic. It’s simple, delicious, and supportive of exactly what we need in midlife—better gut health, steadier energy, and stronger bones.

Here’s to raising a glass (or jar!) of chia-kefir cocktail to your health 🥂.

And since this chia-kefir cocktail is my go-to pre-workout fuel, it’s the perfect lead-in to share something else that keeps me feeling strong…

Food as Medicine: Finding Balance in a Confusing Landscape Hi Reader, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the diet industry. There’s no shortage of books, programs, and “expert” advice on how to lose weight, reduce inflammation, or follow the latest trendy plan.
