Why I keep castor oil in my first aid cabinet

Castor Oil: The Ancient Remedy That Still Works Wonders Today

HiReader,

Castor Oil: Nature’s Ancient Healing Secret

When most people think of castor oil, they picture an old wives’ remedy—a bitter tonic handed out to children long ago. But castor oil is so much more than that. In fact, it’s one of nature’s most powerful healing allies, with benefits that extend to digestion, detox, inflammation, scar healing, and even hormonal balance.

Used for over 2,000 years and referred to as “Palm of Christa,” [the castor oil plant castor oil has always held a place in plant medicine. Herbalists and naturopaths continue to rely on it because of its ability to gently yet effectively support the body’s natural healing systems.

If you’re wondering about the words “Palma Christi”, it’s Latin for Palm of Christ. The name goes back hundreds of years and is tied to its reputation as a healing oil. It wasn’t given that name because the plant itself looks like Christ’s palm, but rather as a symbolic reference:

  • Palm = healing: In Christian tradition, the palm branch is a symbol of healing, victory, and peace.
  • Christi = of Christ: By calling it the Palm of Christ, early healers and herbalists were essentially saying castor oil had Christ-like healing powers.

The large, hand-shaped leaves of the castor plant (Ricinus communis) may have influenced the imagery too — they do look like outstretched hands, which likely made the symbolism feel even more fitting.

So, the name is more metaphorical than botanical: it highlights the oil’s wide-ranging healing properties, which were considered almost miraculous.

My Castor Oil Story

I experienced its healing power firsthand after a gym accident. While removing a lat pull-down bar from a cable attachment, it slipped and hit me squarely on the forehead. Within seconds I had a laceration, bleeding, and a golf ball-sized lump above my left eyebrow.

An ER visit confirmed I didn’t need stitches, but I feared permanent scarring on my face. Once the wound healed, I began massaging castor oil into the area daily. Over about 10 months, the bump flattened, the scar tissue softened, and I was left with smooth skin—no scar at all.

I’ve also used castor oil nightly on my left foot to ease inflammation from plantar fasciitis. By massaging it in and slipping on a cotton sock before bed, I’ve noticed real improvement in my comfort and mobility. It also helped to soften some calluses I had so my tootsies look better!

Why It Works

Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, which has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and circulation-boosting properties. That’s why it helps with so many issues:

Detox & lymphatic flow – Castor oil packs stimulate circulation and help the body clear waste.

Digestive support – Encourages regularity and eases bloating.

Scar + tissue healing – Breaks down scar tissue and supports repair (my own experience!).

Inflammation relief – Soothes joints, muscles, and chronic conditions like plantar fasciitis.

Hormone health – By improving detox and reducing inflammation, it lays the foundation for better hormonal balance in midlife.

Choose Quality Castor Oil

Not all castor oils are created equal. For safe and effective use, always choose one that is:
✔️ Hexane-free
✔️ Cold-pressed
✔️ Stored in a dark glass bottle (not plastic, which can leach microplastics into the oil)

My Recommendation

If you’re ready to bring castor oil into your own healing toolkit, I highly recommend Queen of the Thrones Castor Oil & Packs. They meet all the quality standards and their packs make the process simple, clean, and mess-free. My favorite pack is the “Castor Oil Liver pack.” Doing that for an hour before bed puts you into “rest and digest” mode (the parasympathetic nervous system) and makes deeper and better sleep more possible. For anyone dealing with sleep issues due to the hormonal ups and downs from menopause, this is something to try.

Don’t let castor oil remain a forgotten remedy from the past. Make it part of your nightly ritual and see how this ancient plant medicine can transform your healing and self-care.

Healing Encompasses a Variety of Factors, When it Comes to Using Natural Products

When it comes to using natural products like castor oil, keep in mind that each person’s body is unique and healing anything is also a result of other factors someone does. In the case of the injury I had to my forehead, I did use castor oil topically, but I also eat a diet that’s anti-inflammatory by avoiding things like alcohol, processed food and sugar. I also meditate and make sure I get enough sleep that helps the body with the recovery process in general. These are a few of my daily habits that reduce the toxic load of urban living—both inside and out—making it easier for my body to heal.

Many blessings to you for abundant health, happiness and wellbeing ~
